“You have to go to work today?” Sienna asked.
Lynn rolled her head back and looked at the ceiling as she took a deep breath. Closing her eyes briefly, she answered, “It comes from my new Boss, Sienna. I don’t think I have much of a choice.”
“I hope they aren’t going to be like this all the time.” Jake said with a scowl.
Lynn looked around the kitchen and dining room, noting that both seemed clutter-free and clean. Maybe the inside of the house wasn’t as bad as the outside. “Think you two can handle the container?”
Sienna shrugged, “I guess we’ll have to.”
“Hope they don’t mind my clothes. I’m not changing.” Lynn briefly brushed at the wrinkles and dust on the front of her blouse, and then gave up. Grabbing her purse, she instructed, “Don’t let any strangers in the house! Call me if there are any problems.”

Jake and Sienna followed their Mom to the door as she ran down the steps and then down the driveway, her purse dangling from one hand and trailing out behind her. Jake hoped she would be okay for a day at work. Only a moment ago, she’d looked completely exhausted.
With their Mom out of sight, Jake grinned evilly, glancing at his sister. At the sight of her warily looking at him out of the corner of her eyes, he suddenly spun towards the stairs. Sienna, ready for his move, spun at the same time. With a half second lead, Jake bounded up the stairs first.

I’m in the midst of madcap writing, and hit 50K this last Sunday. Woohoo! I’m now well on my way to the triple Nano that is my goal. If I don’t catch the cold that’s been going around, I might actually reach it.
In other news, you may have noticed that this page isn’t as ‘long’ as previously. There is a really good reason for that. Namely, size. From the beginning of the relaunch I’ve been having a really big problem with the size of the graphics, in that they are just too big. Anyone with a little slower connection would immediately be put off.
So, by cutting down the literal size of the pages, I was also able to substantially cut down the KB size. As another plus, now you don’t have to scroll to read it! (At least, on most sized screens.)
Everyone have a great November! Time to go bury myself in words again…

NaNoWriMo is just around the corner, and I’ve already started planning for it (take a look at my blog for more info). Part of this means creating a comic page buffer so that the comic continues uninterrupted. So far the work on that is going great! Octobers is already finished and I have November almost half done.
Talking about writing, I think I’ve finished editing all of Chapter 1. Now to start rewriting Chapter 2. I’m looking forward to catching up to where the old comic format left off.
Yay!

First off, the new page is finished and will be up first thing Thursday morning.
Things learned this past month:
1. Text heavy graphics increases file sized much more than expected. I’ll do all I can to keep pages under 150K, but so far if they are compressed much below that the quality really deteriorates.
2. My style has definitely changed in the last few years. Just look at the characters in graphic 1 (from 2005) compared to graphic 2 (new).
3. Hackers are everywhere and apparently don’t have a real life. Instead of spending most of July 4th weekend working on art, instead I was piecing this website back together. Grrrrrr.
4. Monsoons have just started for the season and make me realize anew just how much I miss clouds.

Well, it turns out Comicshout was just dropped by its creator for various reasons just as I had tweaked the theme the way I wanted. As I didn’t want to get stuck with a dead-end comic script like what happened with Istrip (which I really liked, BTW), I had to go back to researching alternatives. This has now put me at least a week behind.
In the end it came down to only one alternative, and I wasn’t really keen on it: WordPress with the ComicPress theme. To be blunt, it’s been a pain in the neck getting it to do what I want and look like I want. The pluses: Active development and a very active and helpful community to answer questions.
So, here we are, with a new site that still need work, but at least it’s starting to take shape. Now to get busy on the most important part: the relaunched comic!
